MembershipDear New/Prospective Member: We welcome you to the Washington Branch of the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS). Upon joining this branch of the Royal Aeronautical Society, you will become associated with an organization with a 140-year history. The 8th Duke of Argyll and his like-minded aerial navigation enthusiasts formed the Society in 1866 to promote heavier-than-air flight. The headquarters of the Society is located in London , England and has over 63 branches and 19,000 members throughout the world. As the Society website (http://www.raes.org.uk) describes, the RAeS is “ the one multidisciplinary professional institution dedicated to the global aerospace community". The Washington Branch of the RAeS was inaugurated to serve the Washington area on 17 December 2003 , the centenary of the Wright Brothers’ manned flight. The aims of the branch are to stimulate advances in aviation safety and technology by providing a forum to improve further the technical, political and social interchange between the US and UK aerospace communities. The lecture meetings and the receptions beforehand provide a good opportunity for interdisciplinary discussions . The Washington Branch Committee Chairman and committee members encourage you to join and attend the four to five annual lecture meetings and to participate in discussions on improving Branch activities and functions. Annual Dues are $30.00 ($10.00 for students) and checks should be made out to “RAeS” and sent to Penny Young, Flight Safety Foundation, 601 Madison St #300 , Alexandria , VA 22314 |
